Each year the Kentucky Derby Museum sponsors an art competition for students in Jefferson County to showcase their talents and celebrate the Kentucky Derby.
The 2016 “Horsing Around With Art: A Student’s View of the Sport of Kings” runs Jan. 18 through Feb. 21 in the Matt Winn Gallery, showcasing student work and perspective on “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.”
New this year will be a special Triple Crown Award. In honor of American Pharoah, the Triple Crown Award will showcase specially designed 2D and 3D triptych artwork produced by students.
One Grand Prize winner will win FREE tickets to Kentucky Derby 142 and have their artwork on display at the Museum for one year. Other prizes include a private tour of a Thoroughbred farm, a chance to experience Churchill Downs’ backside during the first morning of Derby Week and high quality art supplies. A total of $5,900 will be awarded to winning schools’ art departments.
All winners will be recognized in a special ceremony at the Museum Feb. 9, where exhibiting students will be invited to attend with their families.
