Each year, the International Association of Business Communicators of Kentucky (IABC-KY), and the Public Relations Society of America’s Bluegrass Chapter (PRSA Bluegrass), hosts the Landmarks of Excellence Awards to recognize outstanding achievement in the public relations arena.
This year the Kentucky Derby Museum's Executive Director, Lynn Ashton was named Communicator of the Year! The Annual Communicator of the Year Award recognizes Louisville Metro area individuals whose demonstrated communications skills over an extended period of time have had a substantially positive influence on the community and/or significantly raised awareness of an issue. This award is co-sponsored by the IABC-KY and the PRSA Bluegrass.
Lynn Ashton has led the Kentucky Derby Museum through the most challenging and celebrated year in its history. In August 2009, the Museum was devastated by flash flooding, forcing us to close nine months for reconstruction. Showing great optimism, Lynn turned an unfortunate situation into an opportunity to connect with the community, pursue an extraordinary renovation and revitalize the Museum's mission and marketing. Her enthusiasm has garnered the Museum international attention and a new generation of fans.
The Kentucky Derby Museum also won Landmarks of Excellence Awards for Crisis Communications in the Overall Communications category and Special Events: the Launch Party for the media and community attention that it garnered.
