Mage, going off at 15 - 1, had a stunning late charge and overtook Two Phil's to become the 149th Kentucky Derby winner! He lived up to his name, which means "magician" or "wizard."
During Saturday's press conference, Javier Castellano first gave thanks to God, followed by, "I feel amazing. I feel like I'm on top of the world." He rode for fellow Venezuelan, trainer Gustavo Delgado Sr., who told Castellano, "Take your time, enjoy the ride, don't rush the horse." In the jockey room before the race, NBC referenced his 0-15 Kentucky Derby record, and he said, "It gave me so much inspiration in myself. And I think this is the year." Congratulations, Javier!
