100,000 Miles of Smiles!
The Prius just hit a milestone of 100,000 miles which I have been able to accomplish in the 6 years that I’ve been the Outreach Coordinator. In that time, I have seen 174,850 students and adults throughout 80 counties in Kentucky and 4 counties in my home state of Indiana which breaks down to 449 days on the road presenting to:
- 206 different elementary, middle and high schools
- Summer camps, after school clubs, elementary school family nights and various county libraries
- 6th Grade AG Day Celebration in Muhlenberg County
- Keeneland Race Course 5th Grade Field Trip Week
- Fort Knox School Age Center
- Kentucky Farm Bureau Regional Teacher Workshops around the state
- Robertson School, a K-12 institution and the only school in Kentucky’s smallest county
- The Backside Learning Center (www.backsidelearningcenter.org) at Churchill Downs
- McDowell House (www.mcdowellhouse.com) in Danville
- McDowell Place, an independent and assisted living community, in Danville
- Governor’s Scholars Program at Murray State University
- Sunrise Rotary Club in Columbus, Indiana
- The Smithsonian sponsored Hometown Teams Traveling Exhibit (www.museumonmainstreet.org/content/hometown-teams) at the Lincoln County Library
As I wrap up the fall semester and what remains in 2018, I’m inclined to reflect on those 100,000 miles and all of the highlights within the last 6 years: celebrating two Triple Crown Winners; the Kentucky Derby Museum’s impressive growth with record attendance years and expansion adding 16,000 square feet of renovated and new space; the addition of local outreaches within Louisville and the surrounding counties to my travels. It’s exciting to think of what is to come, so check back in to see what 2019 has in store!
