I was in the archives of the Kentucky Derby Museum at 704 Central Ave standing among some of the rarest and oddest pieces of the storied race’s history. It’s just an elevator ride and a few steps into the two unmarked rooms that sit below the museum's actual attractions and exhibits.

Combining his love of horses with ballet, one Kentucky Derby Museum employee is showing visitors a unique side to Churchill Downs. Dave Goud was a principal dancer with the Louisville Ballet for 12 years. Now, he's a tour guide with the Kentucky Derby Museum.
The program was designed by Ronnie Dreisdadt and Heather Hill, who work in education services at the Kentucky Derby Museum, in conjunction with the Backside Learning Center, which provides educational programs and social services for equine workers and their families.
It was a full house at the Kentucky Derby Museum on Friday morning. They tell WLKY the museum saw 68 percent more visitors last time the tournament was in town along with a 48 percent increase in gift shop sales.
On Thursday, thousands of fans converged in Louisville to watch four collegiate programs duke it out for the NCAA South Regional championship in downtown's KFC Yum Arena — University of Virginia, University of Oregon, University of Tennessee and Purdue University.
Big Brims and Fancy Trims is Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Kentucky Derby Museum. The hat sample sale starts at 5:30 PM, but they'll have popup shops and complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 4:30 PM.
